The International Association of Yoga Therapists provides the following definition: Yoga therapy is the process of
empowering individuals to progress toward improved health and
well-being through the application of the philosophy and practice of
Yoga. Most yoga practices, when performed with awareness, have therapeutic benefits. In my practice of Yoga Therapy, which is based on the Yoga Nidra tradition, clients enter a relaxed, yet alert, meditative state and the therapist guides them through inner explorations of their moment-to-moment experience, including sensations, emotions or beliefs. This brings greater awareness to these, leading to the clients' deeper understanding and acceptance of their obstacles, and to overcoming them. The inner journey is paced and directed by the client, ensuring that time is spent on the most relevant concerns. |
